Stimp Speed
MEASURING THE SPEED OF A GOLF GREEN
- A stimpmeter bar is used to assess the speed of the golf green.
- A golf ball is placed in the notch near the end of the bar.
- The bar is gradually tilted upwards, to about 20 degrees, when the ball will roll forward.
- The distance rolled is recorded, with 3 measurements being taken in one direction and then another 3 measurements in the opposite direction.
- The 6 readings are averaged and this is the stimp speed of the green.
Stimp meter speeds of professional greens
range from 9 - 12.
The higher the rating, the faster the green.
